About our School

West Riding Academy is an ambitious and inclusive 11-19 Special School, proud to serve local children and families in Barnsley and proud to be part of Nexus Multi Academy Trust. We deliver a spiral curriculum (aligned with the national curriculum) that allows for multiple outcomes, including access to appropriate personalisation and accreditation. All schemes of learning and sequences of lessons are constructed in order to identify and address gaps in prior learning and to build towards mastering the recall and application of knowledge and skills in a variety of different contexts. Academic progress and personal development are underpinned by our root concepts and students follow bespoke branches of our curriculum to reach their goals and next destinations as happy, healthy and independent adults. About our Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and inspirational teacher who has the highest aspirations for young people and who relishes a creative and diverse role within a dynamic and flexible team.

The role will include these key responsibilities:

Developing new specialist provision for our students, including at Key Stage 4;

Maintaining Educational Health and Care Plans and other associated plans, distributed from the school’s SENDCO;

Exceptional pastoral care and support as a tutor for a group of young people;

Highly-skilled relationships with students’ families and a strong commitment to working in partnership;

The flexibility to teach a range of subjects in our curriculum;

Line managing associate staff.
