We are seeking a highly competent, enthusiastic and energetic individual to join our Trust executive team for September 2022 and become our new Executive Director for SEND.

About the role 

The post will be based in the central team at Trust Head Office, Magna 34 business Park, but will be required to work with designated schools across our MAT and line manage up to 7 Headteachers.

As per the Trust operating model, this post holder is not an Executive Headteacher, and is instead an Executive Director. This means line-managed Headteachers will retain a large degree of autonomy in the management of their schools, and will be the named responsible officers on any Ofsted report. As such, this role comes with delegated responsibilities from the Trust Chief Executive Officer, but does not hold the legal accountabilities for the performance of schools. The role is to be the vital enabler of success across the area of responsibility


The type of person we’re looking for…

The successful candidate will bring enthusiasm, resilience and a proven track record of working in senior leadership (at least Headteacher/Principal) in a specialist or AP setting, or in a similar role in another Trust or public authority (Head of Service/Assistant Director).

The post holder will be required to offer professional challenge but also work in an empowering, enabling way which encourages difference and diversity and provides Headteachers and schools with the space to flourish, within the broad parameters of the MAT quality assurance framework.

The vision for Nexus MAT is that we are “Learning together, to be the best we can be”, and the leadership style of the successful candidate will be a key determining factor in the selection process. We want someone who understands the importance of servant leadership and who consistently applies appreciative enquiry methodology. The Nolan Principles must be part of the successful applicant’s DNA.

The successful applicant will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and work closely with Directors, the Executive Management Team and Headteachers to ensure the Trust and our schools are meeting our strategic objectives.

The Trust works to School Teacher Pay and Conditions, and the successful applicant will automatically be enrolled into the Teacher Pension Scheme or the Local Government Pension Scheme, depending on whether they hold QTS or not. The role comes with up to 37 days annual leave entitlement (FTE) plus bank holidays and the opportunity to take flexi-leave.
