CEO Briefing April 2016
Hello all! This is the first issue of what will be a regular briefing from me, which I hope will help keep Members, Directors, Governors and employees informed and up-to-date with what’s happening across our family of schools within Nexus MAT.
We had a really successful English Institute of Sports day on Monday 25th April. The Headteachers were really impressed and grateful for the efforts of the Sports Leaders at Aston and Thurcroft schools. The Heads relayed that we had a calm and crisis free day, which was enjoyed by all. Well done everyone!
Maltby Hilltop have recently appointed a new teacher for the next school year—Chris Spowage—who will be joining us from September as a newly qualified teacher. Rob and David were very impressed with the field of candidates, and it was a hard day’s interviewing that governors were also invited to be a part of. A warm welcome to Chris!
Luci and Team Abbey continue to go from strength-to-strength: as Abbey increases pupil numbers to 80, we have recruited to 12 new roles including: 7 individual support workers, 3 teachers, and a new Assistant Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher! The response to adverts was overwhelmingly positive, and is yet more recognition of the progress all staff and children at Abbey have made. I’m really pleased to have Wayne Askham in the role of Deputy Head as part of our wider Leadership Team—I’ve seen him in action at the Abbey, and he will be a great Deputy to and for Luci.
In this season of recruitment, Kelford School are also due to interview next week (3rd May), and Jacky has an equally difficult day ahead of her, with a strong field of really good people applying to work with us. I can’t wait to hear how we get on at Kelford, too!
Nexus has now been incorporated and we have bank accounts (hooray!!) in place so we can start to function as a business. We are aiming to convert the 3 schools on 1st June, though—as we’ve said many times before—there should be little to no noticeable change in any of the schools immediately. However, we have some really exciting plans for how we can offer a broader and better offer for Rotherham’s children and families, as well as improve some of our school sites, so everyone should start to see and feel the positive impact of Nexus Multi Academy Trust before the end of this calendar year.
I’ll be in touch again soon.
