Join the Nexus team as a Finance Director (Chief Finance Officer)
We are seeking a highly competent, enthusiastic and energetic individual to join our Trust executive team and become our new Finance Director (Chief Finance Officer).
About our Trust
Nexus Multi Academy Trust (MAT) is an established schools Trust which currently operates across South Yorkshire. We have a clear growth plan, and an exemplary track record of managing schools and public finances. Our strategic plan outlines our vision, values and objectives for further growth and development, and our medium term financial strategy sets out the detail of our financial planning ethos.
About the role
The post will be based in the central team at Trust Head Offices at the Magna 34 business park, and leads a team of highly skilled and experienced finance professionals, as per the attached structure. The Trust has a robust and exhaustive financial management framework in place, with the effectiveness of this reflected in our annual accounts and management letter. The successful applicant will therefore be joining a strong, highly effective finance department that can be led and developed further to meet the emergent needs of our growing Trust.
The type of person we’re looking for…
The successful candidate will bring enthusiasm, resilience and a proven track record of working in a strategic finance setting. The post holder will be required to offer professional challenge and undertake budget and policy analysis to act and advise Directors accordingly.
Experience of working within a defined chart of accounts is essential, as is a sound knowledge of the Education & Skills Funding Agency regulatory framework for academies along with a working knowledge of the Department for Education’s High Needs Operation Guidance. As the Trust is an exempt charity and also a private limited company, applicants must have an understanding of the Charities Commission SORP and the role and function of Companies House.
Whilst applicants already operating at a similar level are preferential, this post could be an exciting next step for applicants on the career ladder. If an applicant doesn’t yet have Chartered Accountant status, they may be considered for interview if they can evidence they are working toward this with the potential to become Chartered in the next 18 months.
The successful applicant will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and work closely with Directors, Executive Management Team and Headteachers to ensure rigorous financial management and oversight remains in place.

The Trust works to local government terms and conditions, and the successful applicant will automatically be enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme. Pay is mapped to the leadership scales of the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document, which are typically subject to annual inflationary increases as agreed by Government. The role comes with up to 37 days annual leave entitlement (FTE) plus bank holidays.
